The Bundeswehr Military Karimata is made of closed-cell EVA foam, which provides basic thermal insulation and separation of the user from damp and uneven ground. The accordion folding design allows for quick unfolding and folding. When folded, it can be used as a seat.
The material remains flexible over a wide range of temperatures and does not absorb water, allowing for use in field conditions. When folded, the carrimat occupies a compact form, allowing it to be transported next to a hiking backpack or used as a piece of equipment stiffening.
