A rangefinder with great possibilities

Vortex Viper HD 3000 rangefinder is modern equipment for measuring distance in the field. It has a range up to 2743 meters, 4 measurement modes (Normal, First, Last and ELR), and two distance measurement methods (LOS and HCD). It can be used to calculate the accurate shot on terrain with different slopes. Furthermore, it is characterized by high accuracy, in the range of 0.9 m. The minimum measuring distance is very low, only 5 meters.

The compact design is very compact and light. The dimensions allow you to carry the rangefinder around the neck or waist. The body is made of aluminum covered with a rubber coating. It is a reliable protection of the optical system against mechanical damage and weather conditions, and at the same time, it fits well in the hand. There is a diopter adjustment knob on the right eyepiece and a standard tripod thread at the bottom.

HD quality optics for a clear picture

The lens with a diameter of 25 mm has an angular field of view of 6°. The applied HD Vortex optics with XR Plus coatings provide a crystal clear image, regardless of the light conditions. Anti-reflective coatings are applied on each outer surface in contact with the air. They ensure high light transmission and the resulting image brightness. HD optics effectively reduces chromatic aberration, which guarantees faithful color reproduction, and maintains the sharpness of the field of view over the entire surface. The lens is protected against dirt and scratching by an ultra-hard ArmourTek coating.

The measurement results are shown on the TOLED display. It has increased light transmission to increase the usefulness of the rangefinder in low light. The contrast backlight, in red, is effective for light and dark targets. The rangefinder has a sevenfold magnification with a wide field of view, so you can simultaneously, comfortably and in detail, track the target and watch its surroundings.

Great possibilities with simple power supply

The rangefinder is powered by a single CR123 cell, which is sufficient for 4000 single measurements. Its slot is secured with a flap, designed to be opened without the use of tools. The power level is informed by a notification appearing on the display when the level drops below 25%. The device is very easy to use. Apart from the eyepiece knob, there are two buttons for this; i.e. measurement switch and menu activator. There are 3 predefined automatic switch-off times and 5 display brightness levels. You can choose the measurement unit, meters, or yards in the settings.

• Four measurement modes:
• Normal - Displays the distance of the actual aiming point. - Standard mode, suitable for most applications. Provides precise reading of distant objects. The default mode of the rangefinder.
• First Mode - Calculates the distance from the foreground target. - Mode for measuring smaller targets in front of the background or more reflective.
• Last Mode - Displays the distance to the background object. - Long range measurement mode, designed to lock onto a smaller target behind a group of larger objects.
• Extended Laser Range (ELR / Extended Laser Range Measurement Mode) - For measuring distances over the greatest distances. - Allows you to target small, very distant targets that reflect the laser beam less. Recommended when the Normal mode does not allow you to make a correct measurement. The ELR mode has a longer measuring time. For the greatest precision, use of a tripod is recommended.


• Two distance measurement modes:
• LOS (The Line of Sight) - Angular compensation mode for use with a ballistic calculator. - A special mode for long shot shooters, shooting at distances over 457 meters, in terrain with a slope greater than 15°, using calculators, tables, or ballistic applications, to correct the fall of the projectile. In this mode, the range is measured without the ballistic correction for the slope of the terrain. Most ballistic applications and calculators require the actual distance to be indicated, as they provide their own independent correction for the drop slope. When shooting long distances in steep terrain, the LOS mode calculates a bullet's wind correction much more accurately than the HCD measurement.
• HCD - Mode for measuring the distance to a target that is on the same plane as the rangefinder. - Basic mode, used in shooting and archery. The measurement taken indicates the actual distance to the target, which is in the same plane as the shooter. The displayed HCD distance is corrected for the shooting angle and does not require additional corrections by the shooter.
  HCD mode is used when:
  • shooting a rifle on a flat surface, at any distance
  • shooting a rifle at a distance of up to 640 m, in terrain with a gentle slope (less than 15°)
  • shooting a rifle at a distance of 366 m, in terrain with a moderate slope (15° to 30°)
