The SI-BS-NATO-BK blast shield mounts directly to the A2 Birdcage Flash Hider, without removing the original cap. The steel construction has six holes that discharge the exhaust gases in a forward direction. This solution reduces the perceived blast and noise for the shooter and those in the vicinity, while not interfering with the flame suppressor itself.
The forked locking latch is equipped with a safety feature that prevents accidental release even if the rear segment is not fully tightened. Removal requires a complete lift of the fork, possible only when the cap is fully unscrewed, which minimizes the risk of spontaneous unlocking during use. The cap is designed for use with 5.56mm cal. weapons equipped with a standard A2 cap, as well as with the 9mm Birdcage version.
